The Sequim City Band has lost its founder and long-time director, Chuck Swisher.  Chuck passed away on June 4, 2012.  After his retirement as a professional musician and long-time music educator Chuck and his wife settled in the Sequim area.  He founded the Sequim City Band in 1992, which has grown from fewer than 20 members to a 60-member traditional community band.  The band is proud to continue Chuck’s vision of a volunteer adult band performing for the entertainment of the public in the northern Olympic Peninsula.  The band performs concerts throughout the year and is best known for the monthly public concerts performed at the James Center for the Performing Arts, an outdoor concert venue.  Part of the James Center complex is Swisher Hall, a rehearsal space for the Sequim City Band named in honor of Chuck Swisher.  The band is saddened by the news and send their heartfelt condolences to the Swisher family, whose patriarch was a well-loved member of the Sequim City Band for the past 20 years.

A memorial service will be held at the James Center, 563 N. Rhodefer Road on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm.  The public is invited to attend the celebration of Chuck’s life and experience the legacy that Chuck left the Sequim community.

Road at the James Center or off of N. Blake Ave. at the Water Reuse Demonstration Park.  This venue is in a park setting has a limited amount of permanent seating, so please bring lawns chairs and other items appropriate for an outdoor service.
